Happy New Year, you! I meant to write you but I was so exhausted I just thought I would lie down a few minutes before writing and then I fell asleep. But then Fang jumped on me just now so I am awake. So I am answering.

I'm sorry I didn't write you more, but yes they are keeping me very busy. I suppose we are getting on fine. It is easy to get on with Mrs Stretton if you work hard and then if she gets in a yelling mood you just let her yell at you. It's not like she yells all the time anyhow. Unless you are Jeremy. But that is a family thing I guess. She only yells at me like it's business. So I do not mind so much.

Anyhow yes there is a lot to do here even though I thought the busy part would be done after Christmas. But there were a lot of New Year's parties and some people wanted baskets for guest-gifts. And then Mrs Stretton started in on the cleaning. I have not used Scourgify so much in all my life but it is very very tidy here now and all the baskets and tags and wrappings and things are organized by size and color and every possible thing you could think of.

Oh! I loved the lace-up armwarmers. They are so cunning, with that faux-leather, and lovely and black. They are just the thing. Thank you!! And the gift certificate has me thinking.

I did! Only Dad's decided I'm getting too plump and he suggested I ought to limit myself to one chocolate a day. But that's good; it'll last until Valentine's at that rate!

The twins are big enough now that they're getting into all sorts of trouble. They remind me of Fang a bit. Only they're noisier.

We're going to New London tomorrow to get Pip and Laurie more quills and things, and Dad's taking us to supper. He got some good news today: He's being promoted. I guess one of the senior Healers resigned all of a sudden and it's meant that someone was promoted into his position, and someone else was promoted into her position, and that meant Dad was promoted into her position. There's a rise in salary and all.

So he's taking the whole family to supper to celebrate.

How splendid for your Dad! New London restaurants are quite exciting. All the magazines say so. Oh! Miss Penworthy said I could choose a subscription to an improving publication for my Christmas gift, so I have to decide which one I will have. If I get one that talks about beauty products perhaps it will give me advice on my gift certificate. And thank you very much again. I am so excited!

Fang may not be as noisy but he is fiercer I am sure. Unless the twins have taken to biting things. Fang has decided lately that my journal ought to have round covers so he is trying to nibble it. Silly cat.

If you don't get down to the bottom of the box of chocolates by Valentines Day then the surprise at the bottom will have to do for your valentine, is all I can say.
